Backlebee acts as your EU responsible party, standing next to you for the quality of your brand.
Does this replace an importer? +
Regarding compliance, yes. The customs import process will be executed by the bonded partner warehouse. This bonded warehouse will act as your limited fiscal representative.
What do I need to do? +
You just build your master data with us, to gather all information about your products, supported by analyses and certificates.
How do I benefit from it? +
We support you being compliant for the EU markets.

What must be on your bottle

Which details are required? +
Six things have to be right before a bottle may be sold in the EU. We go through this list with you before your artwork goes to print.
  • Name and EU address of the responsible party
  • The legal name of the category, like rum or whisky
  • Alcohol by volume and net contents
  • A lot or batch marking
  • Allergens, sulphites for example
  • The right language for the market you sell in
Which regulations is this based on? +
Mainly two: Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 on food information to consumers, and Regulation (EU) 2019/787 on spirit drinks, which defines the categories and how they may be labelled. Both are explained on the EU regulation page.
And the taxes? +
Excise and VAT is being regulated nationally. There is no common regulation for all EU member countries. That part runs through the bonded warehouse and the specialists we connect you to. It does not change your label.

Getting started

Do I need my own EU company? +
No. This can either be yourself as producer, but in case you do not want to open an entity in EU, you can mention an importer or distributor, but this needs a specific label for each market, which is a hassle. If you do not want to “marry” an importer and stay independent, Backlebee might be the solution for you.
How fast can I start? +
We open your account and you can start right away. You enter your article data in a cloud protected database, we review it and then we give our approval for using our company on your bottle label.
What does it cost? +
That depends on your product and your volumes. Ask us and you get a price before you commit to anything.
I run a bonded warehouse. Can we work together? +
